BrewDog, a multi-national brewery and pub chain, is throwing more than a bone to employees with new dogs; the canine-friendly company offers a full week of paid time off for employees who get a new puppy or dog.

The Scottish-based company recently introduced its Puppy Parental Leave initiative; making it the first in its industry, and perhaps any industry, to afford staff members the ability to take the valuable time needed to bond with their new four-legged family members.

Because the company understands what it’s like to have a new arrival, human or hound, Co-Founder James Watt told USA Today, “we wanted to take the stress out of the situation and let our teams take the time they need to welcome their new puppy or dog into their family.”

More than 1000 BrewDog employees from around the world can now take advantage of the company’s “pooch-based perk”; including those who work at its first US based location, BrewDog’s DogTap, a 10,000 square-foot restaurant and bar that opened earlier this year in Columbus, Ohio. Don’t live anywhere near there? No worries, BrewDog plans to open more locations throughout the country very soon!

Let this progressive and potentially trend-setting practice (fingers and paws crossed) be yet another fantastic reason to adopt not shop!
